It Was The Water Pump...

Got the Gold Brick fixed. It was the water pump. Now, it runs nicely, air conditioning works great.

I've run two tanks of biodiesel from Diablo Petroleum in Martinez through it. So far, it's running quite nicely, seems like.

If Only...

Coming home after my late shift at 22:00, I was listening to Dave Morrey's "10 @ 10", and it was 10 tunes from 1989, and a tune with the repeating line "Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away" by Enya, I think.

And I thought, "If Only..."

It's not like my life is an unceasing shitstorm. Actually, things have not been too bad. The new job is OK, the Gold Brick is coming together and should be ready for a long trip in about a year, maybe less, and home life is OK, too.

So, why am I down? Here's why...

Look, if you believe, fine. However, I've been watching Evangelicals that would bum out Jesus. If your beliefs lead you to accept and defend and maybe even work to advance the madness that is the Middle East these days, you need to go back and read Matthew, Mark, Luke and John a little bit closer. Don't skip over to Revelation until you've had the realization that promoting anything and everything Israel ever does, like turning Lebanese into hamburger, isn't neccesarily What Jesus Would Do. I mean, Jesus didn't exactly join the Young Pharisees and work his way up through the ranks, did he?

Anyway, I just wanted to scream when I read the article in Salon.com by Sindney Blumenthal, about the next war.

http://www.salon.com/opinion/blumenthal/2006/08/03/mideast/

My question...when has Richard Perle and the rest of the neocons been right? Now, supposedly the plan is for a 4-front war. From the article...

"Inside the administration, neoconservatives on Vice President Dick Cheney's national security staff and Elliott Abrams, the neoconservative senior director for the Near East on the National Security Council, are prime movers behind sharing NSA intelligence with Israel, and they have discussed Syrian and Iranian supply activities as a potential pretext for Israeli bombing of both countries, the source privy to conversations about the program says. (Intelligence, including that gathered by the NSA, has been provided to Israel in the past for various purposes.) The neoconservatives are described as enthusiastic about the possibility of using NSA intelligence as a lever to widen the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah and Israel and Hamas into a four-front war."

What A Majorly Good Fucking Idea! Wow! How Fucking Brilliant That Would Be!

Can we beat Syria and Iran in a war, allied with Israel? Sure. You Bet.

Just like we have in Iraq.

Look, these pinheads haven't been right yet. Cakewalking liberation=guerilla insurgency for years. Democracy In Action=beheadings by night by militias, and Shi'ites (Our Allies?) demonstrating by the hundreds of thousands in support of Hezbollah, and against Israel (our Ally?). WTF? Well, that's worked out well, hasn't it?

And then, I see a clip on TV of an Evangelical couple, who have willingly given their vote, their support, their children or grandchildren, their future, their money and their trust to the folks who have been running things since 2001, all in the belief that they share a faith in Jesus, saying we *must*support*Israel* no matter what, and I gotta wonder...how can you not see? What, exactly, has to happen before you start to question the actions of your leaders and the direction they are taking us all?

My conclusion is that nothing can happen to make you question. You never will question. Because you believe it's God's Plan, and that's it, End Of Thinking About It.

"Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away..."

I wish.

The Gold Brick

The name is a double meaning. When you drive it, if your not pushing it, it seems like a lazy car. But it is a diesel. These are known to go 500,00 miles before needing to rebuild the engine.

This one has just turned over 157,000.

What a weekend...

Took the Gold Brick (1982 Mercedes-Benz 300D) for the trip to Berkeley to see "An Inconvenient Truth" on Friday night. I scored some free passes, so I couldn't turn it down. Anyway, it was plenty fun, and the wife and I had dinner at the Organic Restarant next door to the theater (Very Berkeley!). Al Gore's Powerpoint Demo is well-made and informative. I learned some science, like the CO2 breathing cycle of the Earth, and now I understand why BioDiesel is a Carbon-Neutral choice of fuel as opposed to petroleum-based fuels. I would recommend the film to anyone who can view it with an open mind.

On the way there, I discovered the air-conditioner has ceased working. Oh, Joy. Cost a bloody fortune to fix last month, and it's already crapped out? Lovely. Then, sitting in the slow eastbound crawl to the Caldecott Tunnel, the Brick started to get hotter and hotter, until I started to worry. Then after the movie, on the uphill climb from Berkeley back to the Caldecott, the temp started to rise until it was just below the top end red mark. Stopped and poured water over it, then noticed the fan at the front of the radiator wasn't running, either. So, I had that problem with a VW once, the car only kept cooled off if the car moved faster than 32 miles an hour. Sweet. I wonder if the air conditioner failure has anything to do with it?
